VBoss Admin Guide 7
Chapter 2
Quick Start
Getting Started
Use the following steps (in the order shown) to quickly get started using VBoss. You are
encouraged to refer to other parts of this document, as necessary, for more information or
additional details about any features or functions.
Step 1. Set Up the Appliance
1. Unpack appliance. Take the Quick Start Guide, accessory kit, and VBoss VBrick appliance
out of the box.
2. Obtain a video source. Get a camera, DVD player with DVD playing, or other
compatible video source to be streamed on your VBoss site.
3. Plug the video source into the appliance. Connect the audio and video outputs from your
source into the VBrick appliance using the cables and converters (if necessary) in the
VBoss accessory kit.
4. Plug in the VBrick appliance. Plug the VBrick into a power source and into an active
high-speed Internet connection. Check with your network administrator that video
streaming is not blocked by your network. If your network blocks video streaming over
port 80, you will need contact the network admin to add the IP or MAC address of the
VBrick appliance as an exception to this rule.
Step 2. Upload Content
1. Login to VBoss as a channel administrator. Browse to http://vboss.vbrick.com and enter
the username and password provided to you.
2. Upload VOD content. In the web-based VBoss application, go to the Content Manager
and click on
Add Video.
3. Select the
Browser Uploader or download the Desktop Uploader to add videos from your
local hard drive to your VBoss channel. Browse to the videos you want to upload and
click
Send. Once complete, enter a title, description and meta search tags, and select a
thumbnail image to add this video to the Asset Library.
4. You may also aggregate existing videos from the YouTube video portal through the
optional Content Aggregation tool. Search through YouTube videos, and add the desired
content to your asset library. Aggregation does not use your storage bandwidth.
5. If you have existing Live or Stored videos either in your local network or on the Internet,
use the optional
Direct Video Path tool to add these videos to your Asset Library. Note:
Local Direct Video paths will only be accessible by viewers within your local network.
Step 3. Configure the Encoder
1. Go to the Encoder Settings menu and choose your encoder settings. Note that these
settings will only affect a VBrick Windows Media appliance with Auto Configuration
enabled.
